WHAT IS WASTEWATER?

 

WASTEWATER is the used water arising from domestic dwellings, commercial and industrial establishments. This comprises of all waste, graywater and blackwater.

 

DOMESTIC WASTEWATER is commonly derived from waste streams such as kitchen, bathroom, laundry and toilet. This type of wastewater occurs in three forms:

  1. Blackwater - water that is grossly contaminated with human excreta E.g. toilet water, composting toilet solids.

  2. Graywater - water that is contaminated, but does not contain human excreta.

  3. Combined - a combination of blackwater and graywater.

 

INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL WASTEWATER this type of wastewater can vary widely in character and therefore usually requires specialized treatment processes.
